MASTER GARDENER
Guardian's Garden Guidance
Advanced Master Gardener

by Evelyn Gainor

Now that your garden is completely winterized and you are waiting for your tulips and crocus to emerge, you have time to sit down and take a look at the 2005 seed catalogs that are filling your mailbox. Get out your garden charts and start planning your spring planting.

Maybe it is time to replace that tired-looking strawberry patch with a new one in that sunny spot at the other end of the garden…and the old patch with a row of new asparagus plants.

Just think, a fresh raspberry sauce on that prepared ham at your next family gathering and a fresh asparagus tip salad to go with it. And, you can top that off with a fresh strawberry pie for dessert. And how about fresh cut flowers as a centerpiece?

If this is on your menu, the Master Gardeners of Huron County can help you. They are offering strawberry plants (Jewel - mid-season) and many assorted perennials at their Plant Sale on Saturday, May 14 (9 AM - 1 PM), at the Huron Expo Center, fairgrounds, 170 W. Soper Road, Bad Axe.

Anyone wanting more information on the sale or anything related to Master Gardeners is invited to call their office at 989-269-9949.
