LEXINGTON'S THEATER
Grand Opening
by Tony Taton

On this beautiful May 14, 2005, the Lexington Theater and Music Company opened with a sold out compliment of 150 people for the matinee and 250 for the evening event at 7:00.

The good Lord presented a near perfect day with temperatures in the low 60s and sunny skies. Thus another stage of Adam and Lisa's dream has come to pass as both sessions were attended by locals and visitors alike.

As of this date, it has been some 60 years since a stage performance took place in the Village Town Hall on the second floor back in the early 1940s.

The seats were all filled as the house lights dimmed and Steve Hall, Steinway artist, introduced himself and gave the audience a background of his music career. Shortly, one could hear bag pipes and out came Mr. Alistair Hill, piper born in Scotland and is now residing in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, as he played a bag pipe march medley.

Steve Hall opened the recital with his rendition of Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee, followed by nine other pieces, with a short history of each before he played them.

A short intermission (15 minutes) was taken before Steve came back on stage.

Steve began recording albums in 1992. His "On Eagles' Wings" is the top selling album in the gift market today.

Mr. Hill then introduced Paula Downing, a gifted vocalist from Port Huron, Michigan. Having a degree in vocal music from Mary Grove College, Paula is currently a cantor and a member of St. Mary's Church in Port Huron. Paula had a fine voice and sang a medley of songs.

Steve then continued his piano concert with nine other pieces, among them, "Jesus Loves Me" (Nessus Dorma), "Linus and Lucy", "Scotland the Brave" and "Amazing Grace".

The last portion of the concert ended with Steve Hill, Paula Downing, the piper, Alistair Hill and the audience all singing, "Let There Be Peace On Earth".

The concert over, the audience responded with loud and long applause. Adam and Lisa had been working like beavers to open on their target date on May 14th, and they succeeded, big time.
