  1. Walt Disney envisioned a radical new kind of amusement park that would be a reflection of American values, hopes and ideals. Construction crews took only 12 months, plus a day, to build his dream park - Disneyland. A man who later became President of the United States reported the opening day events from Anaheim, California. Name this U.S President. (Answer in Sightseers)

  2. One of the world's largest congregations of bats makes this abandoned mine their winter retreat. When they arrive in September, they first hang around town from building overhangs and awnings munching on insects. Once the cold weather eliminates their food supply, they head for a 300-foot mineshaft for winter roosting. This mine was one of the wettest in the country and it took the largest steam-driven pumping engine in the United States to keep it dry. Called the Cornish Pump, this engine was featured on the History Channel's World's Biggest Machines series. Name this mine, which was considered one of the greatest iron mines in the world, and the city where it is located.

  3. There has been more competitive ski jumping at this mountain than anywhere else in the U.S. The ski slide, which was built in 1939 as a WPA project, is one of the highest artificial ski jumps in the world and the only 120-meter hill in the United States. During its inaugural competition in 1939, the North American ski jumping record was set with a jump of 257 feet. Since then, the record has been smashed a number of times. The current hill record of 459 feet was set at the World Cup Competition in 1996. Visitors who climb the 280 steps to the top are rewarded with a panoramic view of seven lakes. Name this ski jump, which is located in the Upper Peninsula near the Wisconsin border.

  4. A 30-ton stainless steel gear is Detroit's newest piece of downtown art. Located on Hart Plaza, this soaring, 63-foot tall monument commemorates the Motor's City's labor legacy and is dedicated to the women and men who built the industrial union movement in Detroit. Inscribed on this soaring arc is a quote from Martin Luther King Jr.: "The arc of history bends toward justice." Surrounding the monument are bronze castings describing labor's history and its vision for the future. Name this labor landmark that is the largest monument dedicated to organized labor in the Western Hemisphere.

  5. True or false? Detroit is the potato chip capital of the world, based on consumption.
