LakeshoreGuardian.com Rumblings
by Darren W. Hood
One of the great things about having a website is the ability to add and update
your content - essentially making it somewhat of a "living" document.
Many of you visit lakeshoreguardian.com on a regular basis and some of you
have asked about access to older issues. Well, I have some GREAT news about
site updates and some new features coming to the website:
- Access to Old Content Being Restored
Several of the old Lakeshore Guardian
issues have been unavailable (i.e., offline) for some time. That issue (no
pun intended) is being resolved. The website team is working during this
holiday season to update the code associated with all of the old issues.
This project will be completed during January, 2006.
- Site-Wide Navigation . . . from anywhere!
Once the aforementioned project
is complete, not only will you have access to all of the older issues, but
the current navigational structure will replace the look and feel currently
associated with older content. What are the benefits? With the old navigation,
you could only move backwards. In other words, you could only get to previous
issues. "Forward motion" wasn't possible.
With the newer navigation, you'll be able to get to any issue from any issue.
The list of articles within a given issue will also be available on the
right side of each page.
- Site-Wide Search Engine
Have you ever visited lakeshoreguardian.com and
wished you could perform a search to find an article quickly? Well, your
wish is being granted!!! A new site-wide search engine will be added by
February, 2006, allowing you to enter such keywords as an article title,
an author's name, a city, or the subject of your choice.
- Electronic Subscriptions
Beginning in January, 2006, in addition to accessing
articles from the current issue, lakeshoreguardian.com visitors will be
able to access an electronic version of that same issue - the ENTIRE issue.
You'll be able to see every article, every photo, and every advertisement
just as they appear in the printed version of the publication.
The issue will be available as a PDF file. PDF stands for "Portable Document
Format". PDF documents can be accessed using the free Adobe Reader. If
you don't have the Adobe Reader or haven't upgraded to a more recent version,
a link to the Adobe website will be provided for your convenience.
Access to the electronic version of The Lakeshore Guardian will be free for
one month. Beyond the first month, special pricing will be offered for new subscribers,
as follows:
- Regular Pricing
- Electronic Subscription Only: $12
- Electronic/Print Combo: $25
- Special Introductory Pricing
- Electronic Subscription Only: $10
- Electronic/Print Combo: $22
The Introductory Pricing will be a 30 day offer. Current subscribers interested
in upgrading to the Electronic/Print Combo should purchase the Electronic/Print
Combo. In such cases, access to electronic versions of The Lakeshore Guardian
will be provided at no charge for the remainder of a subscriber's current subscription
year.
Also, please note that many older issues of The Lakeshore Guardian are being
prepared for "eSubscribers".
