KNOW THE CAUSE!
by Doug Kaufmann

Q…Dear Doug, I watch your program and I think it is great. I need to know the name of the air purifier you talk about on your program and how I may order one. I have four grandchildren who have been having respiratory problems. They have mold in their home and two of them have been hospitalized with RSV.

Thank you so much. I will be looking for your response. Trudy

A...Trudy, thanks so much for your timely letter! With hurricanes, floods, wild fires and tornadoes occurring so often these past few months, everyone must consider using an indoor air purification system. I have always tried to be open and honest with all of my followers including The Lakeshore Guardian readers, so I must apprise all of you that the recommendation I am making to Trudy, the Pionair system, is one of my long time sponsors on my TV program. A full disclosure is the best way to begin this month's column. The Pionair Company pays me advertising fees to air ads on television. Having said this, I pride myself in locating the finest companies in America to recommend to my viewers and readers. Unlike air purification systems, the Pionair uses a UV light source (a great night-light for we oldsters!) to activate a reaction thereby creating clean air. The technology employed is presently being used on sidewalks in Japan, where cleaning outdoor air has become a priority. Sunlight (UV light) shining on the Japanese sidewalks painted with the same gradient used in Pionair's technology creates purified air! The Pionair is quiet, energy efficient and uses no filters. More information can be received by contacting HeathQuest Technologies, the distributors of the Pionair technology at 1-866-PIONAIR, or visiting their Web site at www.pionair.net.

Q… Hi Mr. Kaufmann: I have watched your show and read about you on several Web sites. My question is about my teenage son, who just turned 19. He is 6'5" weighs around 218, works out and who is also a college student living on his own. Due to minimal income from working part-time and going to school full-time, he uses whey protein to supplement his diet. He basically believes in eating good foods, but as you know the cheaper foods are: breads, sugars, etc. He was born with four gallstones and at 10 months old had his gallbladder removed. He has struggled with acne for four years. A couple of years ago, during the summer vacation, he tried eating fruits and vegetables (steamed and raw) and eating fish and lean meats and tried limiting his milk products. It seemed he broke out horribly after two months of this eating regime and swore not to ever try that again. He has bouts of diarrhea and we think it stems from the fact he has no gallbladder and that he doesn't break food down properly. He doesn't drink soda pop, alcohol, smoke, or do any drugs. However, my fear is that the whey protein and the occasional use of creatine could be irritating more. Can you please help....we have tried many things, but I am thinking about a liver or colon cleanse possibly and then the correct foods. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much for all that you do and share. Sincerely, Monica

A…Monica, thanks for the care and concern that your letter demonstrates. My boys are now grown men, 20 and 24 years old and some of our concerns in the past are also represented in your letter. Your son may have been on numerous antibiotics when he was young. It is my belief that to some individuals, antibiotics become poisons. Your letter stated that your son was born with gallstones and then at age 10 months had the gallbladder removed. I'm wondering if you took antibiotics during your pregnancy, or if he took any early in his life. This might have been the reason for the gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy) at such a young age. If my assumption is accurate, one might know that as a young man, many other health problems may arise, as it is quite simple to remove human tissues, but understanding why they became poisoned is difficult. Antibiotics are called mycotoxins, or fungal poisons. Truly, they were of great importance in treating bacterial infections, but fungal poisons should be studied more than they presently are. If the root cause of the gallbladder disease is never isolated, perhaps the underlying disease process would proliferate as the child grows. Again, this is speculative, but well worth understanding. In one of the Dallas areas largest hospitals, I taught two dermatologists to use antifungal medications on acne and our results were outstanding, suggesting a fungal basis to acne. The fact that your son followed a diet very similar to my "phase one diet" (in my books), and worsened, also provide an interesting clue as to the continued suffering. It is quite common to suffer from a healing crisis, called a "die-off" when starving parasitic fungi. They must have their grains, potatoes, junk food and sugars or they will die. They refuse to go down easily and often make the fungally infected person very ill for several days while attempting such a diet.

If the antibiotic scenario is accurate, please find a dermatologist who will prescribe Nystatin for him. A health food store will become your best friend as they have natural antifungal items and food that hinder fungal re-growth. Finally, tell your son to pick up a can of ALL-1 Green Vitamins. The "green" provides chlorophyll, a great antifungal agent, while the dozens of other nutrients in this one tablespoon daily multivitamin, will provide the nutrition he is seeking to bulk up!

Q…I am a diabetic and I take two shots of insulin a day. Does pipe smoking and coffee drinking cause blood sugar to rise? Trying to quit. Thanks, Eugene

A…Eugene, if coffee drinking caused blood sugars to rise, then 98% of Americans would have diabetes and 98% of lawyers would be chasing Starbucks! Now, begin adding 2-4 scoops of sugar to the coffee and the story changes, as sugar feeds what I believe is often the root of diabetes; fungus! Let's see, two scoops times five cups of coffee daily, WOW! Add to this equation inhaled pipe smoke, and you may have a recipe for disaster. With black coffee and pipe smoke, however, I just don't see blood sugar rising. While I applaud you for "trying to quit" there are many commonly eaten foods that I feel contribute to elevated blood sugar levels more than coffee. As far as smoking is concerned, it is my opinion that tightly wrapping tobaccos, fermented in sugars (cigarettes) are far more disease promoting than raw tobacco commonly smoked in pipes.

Q…I just started watching your program here in Mobile, Alabama, on channel 255 (Directv). Although 4:30 a.m. is a bit early, I really enjoy your program!! However, the local program was cancelled March 1st and I can no longer find your program here... Will you be back on in this area anytime soon? Thanks again. Ken

A…Anyone in America can watch my TV program, KNOW THE CAUSE!, everyday on DISH, channel 223 at 9 a.m. Central Time and again on DISH, channel 218 in the afternoon. The show teaches people how fungal infections can mimic serious diseases like sinusitis, arthritis and even cancer.

Q…Dear Doug: I have been dealing with Lyme Disease for the past four years. I have been out of work three times for six months at a time. I have currently been ill again and out of work since Nov. I've been on multiple antibiotics, oral and IV for one and a half years and on and off since '02. I recently found your program, Know the Cause, and am curious about your diet and if I should try it even though I'm still on antibiotics. Do you think it would help or should I wait until I've finished the antibiotics? Currently I'm taking 2Gm IV Rocephen bid, four days on and three off. I think my body is so messed up between the medications I've been on and dealing with this destructive disease. I've spent a massive amount of money taking herbs from an herbalist that made very little improvement. I admit my diet has not been the best. There has been many a day when the best I could do is put a TV dinner in the microwave and go back to bed. Even my doctor who specialized in Lyme is wondering why I am not improving. I am panicking at this point thinking I won't get through this. Can you suggest anything that might help? I am ordering your book so I have not read your diet yet but I don't know if it will do anything with my continued use of antibiotics.

A…As readers know, I am a firm believer that the root cause of many diseases is fungus. I remain totally convinced that the same malaria mosquito that poked its snout in me in Vietnam in 1970, had previously poked its snout in a person with a very dangerous fungal infection. Transferring even small amounts of mycotoxins (fungal poisons) from one person's blood to another's may be the cause of malaria! Now let's play that same scenario with ticks! According to the American Lyme Disease Foundation, Inc, "Lyme disease (LD) is an infection caused by Borrelia burgdorferi, a type of bacterium called a spirochete (pronounced spy-ro-keet) that is carried by deer ticks. An infected tick can transmit the spirochete to the humans and animals it bites. Untreated, the bacterium travels through the bloodstream, establishes itself in various body tissues, and can cause a number of symptoms, some of which are severe." The question is, if this is in fact bacteria, why isn't it cured with strong antibiotics over extended periods of time are used in humans?

If I had this disease, I'd begin taking probiotics daily to reverse the damage being done to the intestines by antibiotics. More importantly, I'd sit down with my doctor and ask some questions! "Doc, if Lyme Disease is what I have, and if the tick that bit me transferred this bacteria to me, why haven't all of your powerful antibiotics gotten rid of it? Might I have been misdiagnosed and this is not Lymes Disease? Might these little buggers (ticks) carry mycotoxins sometimes and not exclusively bacteria? Should we try Diflucan and Nystatin (and Kaufmann's Phase One Diet) for a few months?" Finally, know that blood tests rarely diagnose, rather immunologic tests are sometimes useful in determining previous exposure only. We may have all been exposed to Lyme Disease, and therefore have positive blood tests to it, but these tests often do not confirm the etiology of your suffering. You may have been bitten by a tick when you were two years old, and the blood test would confirm that, but are you suffering today because of that single bite 40 years ago?

Q… Doug, My husband and I have watched your show and we were especially interested in the oregano oil. We were interested originally in it for personal purposes but after getting the book by Dr. Ingram, we believe that this may be the answer to our uncle's overall health problems. He became ill and was hospitalized with what they first diagnosed as pneumonia and later diagnosed with lung cancer. He had a collapsed lung and was deathly ill. The doctors began chemo and radiation but only felt worse and decided that was not for him. He has battled many infections and the doctors say after only a couple of chemo and radiation treatments and some time later when retested that there has been no spreading or increase in size. We aren't even sure cancer was the correct diagnosis. He lost use of his limbs for awhile and was told that he would never walk again. He has regained use of his legs and can walk with a cane, but has no feeling from the waist down and his legs are very spastic. He has to catheterize for urination. He has a lot of problems with constipation and on the other hand very shortly after eating has to be near a restroom or is not able to make it in time. He began stuttering and then after some time it stopped only to come back. He has been on antibiotics for 16 months; they keep trying different antibiotics and have had no results. His appetite is not good as he has abdominal pain and nausea. He has always been very active and strong willed. His will to get well is very strong and is ready to try anything. After reading Dr. Ingram's book on oregano oil, "The Cure is in the Cupboard", we believe that taking the oregano oil, Oregamax, acidophilus would cover the infection and help with the constipation. We would like to have your advice as we are only speculating as to what we know of and think may help him. Thank you, Mac & Tiffany

A…In the late 1990s I read a research paper about non-resolving pneumonia, or pneumonia that does not respond favorably to treatment with antibiotics. Apparently, this is a very common problem, or research papers referring to it would have never been published. Ironically, the researcher said to think fungus when antibiotics did not cure pneumonia! Finally, we had a voice of reason! You see, when one antibiotic doesn't work, an erroneous diagnosis is never questioned, rather their belief that all bacteria is bad supersedes what I believe might be simple logic; "maybe this isn't a bacterial infection since antibiotics aren't working!" Just like in your uncle's case, bigger and more powerful antibiotics are prescribed. Now the bad news; if your uncle's condition IS due to a fungal infection and NOT a bacterial infection, all of these antibiotics are likely accelerating the illness, since antibiotics accelerate yeast conditions. It is most unfortunate that physicians are not schooled in the study of fungus. I am left to wonder how many lives have been negatively impacted by guessing that bacteria were the root cause of the illness. You're absolutely correct that sometimes fungal diseases are erroneously diagnosed as cancer. Many of you have read my book, The Germ That Causes Cancer, in which I list research paper after research paper expounding upon this overlooked science.

If I were your uncle, I'd certainly find a physician that understands fungal diseases and try to get antifungal medicines prescribed. Simultaneously, I'd begin taking Oil of Oregano per Dr. Cass Ingram and start following our Phase One Diet. A good probiotic to reverse the damage that all of these antibiotics may have done is also essential. After 35 years of working in hospitals and with physicians, I'm always amazed at how perceptive and accurate lay people are in their understanding of medical conditions, and how out of control medicine has become. No matter what your age, commit to wellness by doing your best work on your knees, eating well, taking your vitamins, exercising 4-6 days weekly and giving all the glory where due! Until next month, God Bless You!
