  2. For 140 years, the shows have not stopped at this Michigan theater. Ranked as the state's oldest, continuously operated theater, and the third oldest in the United States, it opened its doors in 1866. Over the years, vaudeville acts, minstrel shows, bands, orchestras and live theater played here to full houses. Notable personages who appeared here include Edwin Booth, an American actor (his brother assassinated President Lincoln), Suffragette, Susan B. Anthony and abolitionist, Frederick Douglas. The theater, located in a town once named after the Roman Emperor Hadrian, is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was named in honor of a village mayor who later became Governor of Michigan. Name this theater and the Southeast Michigan city in which it is located.

  3. While famous for other reasons, this Michigander also became well-known as a spokesman for environmental conservation and as a consultant for Ford Motor Company and United Aircraft Company. As an aspiring aviator, he barnstormed around the country, flew airmail between St. Louis and Chicago and made epic flights with his wife, Anne, to China and India. Both were writers. Anne's book, Gift From The Sea, was a best-seller. His book, an autobiography, won a Pulitzer Prize.   4. Of the 24 National Heritage Areas established by Congress, only in Michigan can you visit the one that "put the world on wheels." Michigan's National Heritage Area, located in Southeastern and Central Michigan, is encompassed within a triangular region extending from the Detroit metropolitan area to Flint and Lansing. Hereabout, the National Park Service celebrates the automobile and labor movement by promoting conservation, cultural interpretation, and heritage tourism. There are over 100 automobile related locations for travelers to visit, including factory tours, festivals, museums, drive in restaurants, drag strips, speedways and auto-baron homes.
