KNOW THE CAUSE!
by Doug Kaufmann
Editor's note: Doug Kaufmann has been assisting Lakeshore Guardian readers
since February, 2004, on their quest for better health. In that time, many people
have become motivated to learn more about the cause of degenerative disease
and have since taken charge of their health. Cindy Goniewicha is one such example
- be sure to read her testimonial on page 19.
Q
Doug:
Recently my wife has had to have cysts removed that were located around her
ovaries. She now has another one. This, our doctor says, is stopping us from
having children. Is there anything you could think of that would cause these
to go away?
Secondly, a friend of mine has been diagnosed hypo-thyroid. He takes four different
types of medicine for thyroid, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. The
pigment in his hands has changed because of this also. What would you recommend
he try to eliminate these problems? Thank you, Jim - Ohio
A
Thanks for the letter, Jim! Doctors often rely on birth control pills
to control Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), but it sounds like your wife may
be blocked by the cyst, making procreation impossible. Dr. John Lee stated that
in his 30 years of OB-GYN practice, he never saw one case of PCOS. Then, in
the 1990s something changed all of that. It is my belief that antibiotics, even
those taken decades ago, can adversely affect ones health later in life...and
just might cause cysts. Nasal cysts are now thought to be caused by fungus;
why not ovarian cysts? Antibiotics, as you may know, are fungal byproducts.
If I were your wife, I'd change. Look at her present lifestyle and consider
changing it. If she is sedentary, map out a plan of action to begin daily exercise,
thereby increasing immunity. If she favors carbohydrates (fungus love this!),
modify her diet to exclude most fruits and grains (see my Phase 1 Diet). If
you join her for the exercise and dietary changes, you'll both learn an incredible
amount about yourselves. Some natural therapists recommend Evening Primrose
Oil for ovarian cysts, others an essential oil like Omega 3 fatty acid. If fungi
are at the root of these cysts, I'd ask her doctor for a 30-day stint of Diflucan
and Nystatin, both antifungal drugs
..honestly, this in addition to diet
and exercise changes may help tremendously. Also look into natural antifungals
thereafter as rarely do these problems end after 30 days of treatment. Deep
fungal growth sometimes requires many months to a few years to eliminate.
Your friend with the thyroid, hypertension and high cholesterol should also
try the same program, doctor willing, for 30 days and then have his TSH (thyroid
stimulating hormone), cholesterol and blood pressure redone. I think he will
be thrilled, suggesting a fungal root cause to these symptoms
These are
real organisms, capable of infecting human tissues on the same level as bacteria.

Q
Dear Doug: I have been reading your books and
following your diet and I am very excited about meeting you in November.
My question is this: What do you recommend for additional fiber and how much
do I need to take? Are the fiber capsules sufficient? I have heard that psyllium
husks are good but they also will take some of the good bacteria out of the
intestines. Is this true? Thank you, John
A
Hi John! I'm also excited to meet you in November! My fiber comes from
foods and psyllium hulls, a Natures Sunshine product. If you're following the
Phase 1 or Phase 2 diets, it's likely that you're getting plenty of fiber. John,
in 2000, a medical journal article expounded upon the ability of fiber to actually
RAISE the risk of colon cancer. Although I never perused the article, it would
not shock me if white bread was the fiber used in the study. That would make
absolute sense to me since the American grain supply is commonly contaminated
with mycotoxins, and mycotoxins (fungal metabolites) are known to cause cancer.
Phase 1 fruits, berries and vegetables are loaded with fiber. Those who have
problems with irregularity should replant the good bacteria in the intestines
with probiotics and try a good brand of psyllium hulls nightly before bed. How
much fiber is required is a function of the exact need for more than daily dietary
fiber. The psyllium capsules are fine, but I use a heaping tablespoon of the
hulls and that might require taking 6-10 of the caps. In all of my years and
in working with thousands of sick people, I've never witnessed one being injured,
as you might expect with good gut bacteria being diminished, by taking psyllium.
If medical doctors were truly concerned about disappearing good intestinal bacteria,
they'd never again prescribe an antibiotic!

Q
Mr. Kaufmann, I have the unfortunate situation
of mold in my basement. I'm sure I'm not the only Michigan resident with
this problem. My five-year-old has allergies and asthma, which I assume,
are a direct connection. What can I do to keep the mold problem under control?
Thank you and I love your show! Heather
A
Great question, Heather! Whereas 15 years ago, ignorance prevailed regarding
the cause of asthma and allergy, today even the experts are getting it! Mold,
say many, can cause "sniffles, sneezes and allergies." What they don't
say, however, scares me the most. I believe that once in the lungs, these little
buggers adhere to the tissues and rapidly proliferate into surrounding tissues
and even the blood stream. I truly believe, and have documented my beliefs,
that mold mimics, and may contribute to almost every disease known to man. Fortunately,
on my side is God's word (Leviticus 14). There are two things you need to consider:
mold inside the home and mold inside your son's lungs. I would immediately purchase
what I believe to be the finest home remediation system available today, The
Pionair Air Treatment System (866-746-6247). I'd place one unit in the basement
until you can have that room completely remediated by a specialist, and spend
as little time in the basement as possible. I'd also place a unit in his bedroom
and run it 24/7. If his breathing disorder is due to inhaled mold, I'd ask my
doctor to prescribe Nystatin for a good six months for him. This will assist
in remediating the mold inside of his body. Given the surge in medical articles
talking about the mold link to breathing disorders, the doctor may have no problem
prescribing this harmless medicine.

Q...Doug, I've heard you talk about corn, as a grain, and why not to eat it.
What about corn on the cob? Does it also contain mycotoxins even though it
isn't stored as a grain? It's one of my favorite summer foods! Thank you -
Carl
A
Can you imagine the reception I'll receive when I visit Iowa for a lecture?
In 2002, Ruth Etzel, MD, PhD published an article on bioterrorism in the prestigious
Journal of The American Medical Association (JAMA). She spoke of the threat
of little known poisons, like mycotoxins and then expounded upon our routine
exposure to them. Corn, she stated, was "universally contaminated"
with mycotoxins, whereas other grains in the American food supply were "commonly
contaminated" by fungal poisons. Carl, I'm convinced that many of the diseases
we suffer with today have much to do with slow methodical mycotoxin poisoning,
unbeknownst to our healers. Although popcorn or corn on the cob may appear to
be as fresh as a morning breeze, it is important to recall that both were corn
seeds, quite possibly impregnated with mycotoxins, a short time ago. Etzel reminded
us that we Americans are probably eating approximately .15mg of these dreaded
mycotoxins daily if our diet consists of cereals, breads, pasta, sugar, etc
Based on that observation let me pass along the "Kaufmann approach"
to condoning consumption of corn on the cob. Breakfast of grapefruit, a nice
big salmon salad for lunch and a grass fed steak at dinner with greens and tomatoes
or asparagus
hmmm! Since I just missed my .15mg of poisons that day, a
3.0 dose of corn on the cob tomorrow obviously isn't going to kill me! Kindest
regards to you, Carl!
