The
following is written in honor and in memory of Louis John Reid, Sr.,
who joined our heavenly Father on October 11, 2006. As I sat at Louis's
kitchen table and listened to memories of his Navy days during World
War II, I realized what a privilege it was to make his acquaintance.

Carle's love of ships on the St. Clair River began at the age of 10.
A native of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, his move to Marysville, Michigan,
in 1920, nurtured his fascination with the passenger vessels and freighters
that plied the river. 
As
the last of the farm fields are harvested and the fall tillage continues,
the nip in the air reminds one and all what Mother Nature has in store. 
In
the city you are visiting is a 3.5-acre, triangular oasis of sanctity
called Thanks-Giving Square. This downtown retreat makes for an unusual
but wonderful Turkey Day destination.
