KNOW THE CAUSE!
by Doug Kaufmann

Doug KaufmannQ…Hi Doug, I just found out about your show about a month ago and am excited with all the things you discuss relating to our health. Do you have any advice on cataracts? I have been told that I am developing them and would like to avoid surgery if possible. Thanks for any advice. I do use probiotics and oregano oil and try to follow the Phase 1 diet as much as I can. Marilyn, Essex, Montana

A…Marilyn, this is such a great question! Thank you! It begs the question as to the actual cause of cataracts. As I studied this topic, there are many, many scientific papers that address this issue, and all seem to address “post-surgical” fungal growth in the eye. In other words, fungus did not contribute to cataracts, but only after surgery to correct the cataract once it was discovered. From this we learn that indeed, fungus can grow in human eye lenses.

I also discovered one article that is closer to what I perceive to be the cause of cataracts. Little was I aware that fish get cataracts, too! Here’s what one Web site said about fish cataracts and “the cause.” CATARACTS SYMPTOMS: White or grayish “foggy” substance covering eyes only. Cataracts are caused by fungus. (http://www.fishdoctor.info/fishdoctor/ref.html).

Here we learn that fish cataracts are caused by fungus! Of course, human cataracts have no known cause (http://health.usnews.com/usnews/health/eye_vision/cataract/cat.about.cause.htm). If I had cataracts, I’d take 30 days and TOTALLY change my lifestyle in order to challenge a lifestyle/cataract link. I’d exercise, follow the Phase One Diet, sauna and drink carrot juice several times weekly. Then, I’d return to the eye doctor and see if change was noticed.

Q…Doug, I saw Know the Cause on TV for the first time yesterday. I did a Google search today and began reading the many search results. The more I read, the more concerned I became about my horses. They eat grain every day and also hay. I know they can die if they eat moldy grain and hay. Do you know if animals can benefit from eating carrots and natural foods (fungus fighting food) instead of grains and hay? Do you think they have some God given protection since grass and hay are their natural diet foods? Just wanted to know your thoughts. Valerie

A…Valerie, I’m not a veterinarian (but I do play a doctor on TV!), but several years ago, our beloved 110-pound dog (Akita) got very ill, and we thought we’d have to put him down. My wife, who is significantly wiser than I, requested a diet change contending that what works so well for one mammal just might work for another. How perfectly logical! We bought some ground turkey and steamed and pureed vegetables that we mixed into Sake’s chow twice daily with a shot of liquid garlic. It worked wonderfully! In four days, we had Sake back among the thriving!

This got me thinking and talking it up on my TV show. Many of you have reported similar reversals when changing your pet’s diet. All of this leads me to the most obvious question: Are the pet food companies really correct in their assertions that animals need daily grain? My only recollection of feeding a horse was when I was a small child, and I only fed him carrots! I think time will ultimately teach us that horses and dogs need some of the same nourishment that people need: 50 lb. bags and bales of anything might be proven one day to be inferior to what is grown in the ground as wholesome, real food.

Q…Hi there Doug, I heard about your theories from a friend and have just begun researching them. About 6+ years ago I started having difficulty breathing...basically a labored breath to feel like I received a complete breath. When the symptoms first came on, I was living in a very musty and dark home...lots of old things in the house and moisture. I tried to relieve the sinus symptoms by inhaling water from the faucet. Bad move, I later learned. I could have exacerbated the problem by inhaling those little moldy buggers.

My symptoms have not changed/altered in all the years (i.e., exercise induced, decreased/increased stress levels, changed jobs, moved out of country, arid climate, humid climate, outdoors, indoors, altered eating, etc.). Doctors confirm I am allergic to dust mites and mold. However, who isn't? CT scans showed no "scary" diagnosis (cancer, TB, cysts, etc.). I just spoke with a pulmonary specialist who thought of Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis (ABPA) and spoke about drastic antifungal treatments that need to be heavily monitored. Do you know anything about this? Thank you for your help. Alyson, Denver, CO

A…Hi Alyson! This is very rare, but I finally agree with a pulmonary specialist! There is hope for me… Inhalation of toxic mold spores may require bigger guns that olive leaf extract. Having said this, know that the “perfect” antifungal drug will never be developed. Since fungal cells and human cells are so similar, to kill one perfectly would be to kill the other perfectly. As your question attests, there is a dangerous side to all medications, antifungal drugs being among them. As your doctor knows antifungal drugs are not used to treat ABPA (www.healthatoz.com), rather steroids are used. I am amazed that he is willing to use them and congratulate him for such an approach. Amphotericin B is generally used to treat non-ABPA cases, but I love his willingness to discover the cause rather than treat the symptoms. If I were a physician, I’d be far less concerned about side effects of antifungal drugs than I would steroids!

As far as long-term nutritional assistance, I’d certainly study our Phase One Diet and detoxification with chlorophyll, FAR infrared saunas and beta-glucan. Hold onto that doctor with both hands, because I believe you’ve got a good one!

Q…Dear Doug, My wife has 10 more radiation treatments to complete her breast cancer treatment. A few weeks ago we learned about Know the Cause, and have been watching and recording each session. We are interested in changing our diet and wish to purchase one of your books which best lays out the information we need. Please send your advice on which one. Incidentally, I struggle with allergies and stroke runs in my family. Please advise. Thanks. Gerald and Paula (ages 73 and 70)

A…Gerald and Paula, Thanks for joining the ranks of KNOW THE CAUSE viewers! With the TV show being viewable in over 100,000,000 American households currently, and to the rest of the world via my Internet site (www.knowthecause.com), I have every reason to believe that God Himself has assisted me in growing our presence, as few TV shows have ever been afforded such distribution.

I do not believe in diseases “running in families;” rather, I believe that lifestyles choices are often taught us by our parents and to that end, may indeed be responsible for our succumbing to the exact disease that our parents or siblings did. I believe that we can sometimes alter our genetic destiny by deciding in favor of change.

In 2006, three important references to breast cancer were published. Each gives a small clue as to the cause of breast cancer, but all three together confirm my suspicions as to the fungal cause of this and many other cancers.

One paper stated that antibiotics increased the risk of breast cancer, another documented that alcohol consumption (of any kind) increased the risk of breast cancer, while the final one stated that carbohydrates increased the risk of breast cancer. Here’s the take home message: Antibiotics are mycotoxins; alcohol is the mycotoxin of the Saccharomyces yeast (brewers yeast); and carbohydrates from a grain source are “commonly contaminated with mycotoxins” according to the Journal of The American Medical Association. Fungi make mycotoxins, which I believe make tumors that are called cancer.

I think the best book for you to read is our handbook, THE GERM THAT CAUSES CANCER. You can read the opening pages of any of our books online for free (www.knowthecause.com).
