GARDEN GUIDANCE
Summer Events
Carol Holtrop, Master Gardener Administrator

Master Gardener logoSummer activities will soon be here. The picnics, the ball games, the enjoyment of those warm, lazy days of summer. To help you appreciate summer just a bit more, Huron County Master Gardeners are hosting a Garden Walk in the Harbor Beach area on Saturday, July 19.

You can visit the first garden at 10 a.m. and leisurely visit the other four gardens because they will stay open until 4 p.m. Homeowners who have opened their gardens for the 2008 Walk include Judy and Charles Swartz, Dorothy Thompson, Dan Kramer and Connie Jackson. You can get new ideas for your own yard or just stroll and enjoy the beauty of theirs. Homeowners and several Master Gardeners will be on hand to greet you and help answer any gardening questions you may have. Tickets are $8 for advance sales and $10 the day of the Walk. They will be available at the following locations: in Harbor Beach, The Corner Store; in Port Austin, Heins’ Hardware and Up-the -Grove Gifts & Antiques; and in Bad Axe, McDonald’s Food and Family Center and the MSU Extension office. Tickets will go on sale in mid-June. Call 989-269-9949, ext. 603 for further information.

Mark your calendars and invite your friends to attend the Huron County Master Gardeners Garden Walk on July 19. Everyone is invited.

While you’re at it, be sure to mark your calendar for August 3-9 for the Huron Community Fair. Master Gardeners will have a display garden and informational booth located between the sheep barn and the arena. This year’s theme is butterfly gardening. See you this summer! Happy gardening!
