WHERE IN AMERICA ARE YOU?
by Randy Karr
You are standing in front of the Olympic Training Center and U.S. Olympic Committee Headquarters. The 35-foot bronze monument you see of four athletes bearing the weight of the world is called Olympic Strength - Strength of Body, Strength of Mind, Strength of Spirit. It represents the strength of Olympic athletes and their influence on society. The Olympic Complex was the first of three Olympic training centers built. It offers state-of-the-art sports medicine, as well as housing, dining and other services for up to 557 coaches and athletes at one time. Its location in this city was selected because the 6000-foot elevation here is believed to improve training effectiveness.

Facilities include an Aquatics Center where swimmers and water polo players simulate training at altitudes that range from sea level to 8,000 feet above sea level. They can also adjust the current from zero to three meters per second. Other Olympic facilities include a world-class velodrome that is considered among the top-three cycling facilities in the world and an Olympic Shooting Center that is the largest indoor shooting facility in the Western Hemisphere and the third largest in the world. A Visitor Center offers free walking tours that include a visit to the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame and an opportunity to watch athletes training in the Sport Center Gymnasiums and in the weightlifting and wrestling facilities. Where in America are you, anyway? Name the Rocky Mountain city located near Pikes Peak that is home to the Olympic Training Center
