KNOW THE CAUSE!
by Doug Kaufmann

Doug KaufmannQ…Doug, Well, my husband did the Phase One two years ago and wanted me to tell you what happened to see if there is any correlation between then and now. A kidney stone fell after a month on Phase One two years ago. A CT revealed he had two stones.

But interestingly enough, he just finished Phase One again and now has found blood in his urine. He thinks maybe a second stone dropped. He's wondering if it's the "getting worse before you get better" thing or if it has no relation at all to the diet, which is also a possibility. Have you heard of this happening to anyone else anywhere? His theory is that if stones have a biological entity to them, the body might be purging them out. What are your thoughts? Cheryl

A… Cheryl, if you have the opportunity, please pick up a copy of my Fungus Link 3 book and study pages 102 and 103, which refers to not only to “the cause” of stone formation, but also to dietary and supplementation recommendations. Your husband is a very smart guy! In a nutshell, I do not believe that it is coincidental that adherence to the Phase One Diet seems to influence internal calcium formations, since the formations have to do with fungus and the diet effectively starves fungus. Living organisms are rarely destroyed without a physiological fight often culminating in misery for the patient, (How many women get vaginal yeast infections by taking antibiotics meant to kill bacteria?) A round or two of antifungal medication (either natural or prescriptive) along with the diet might offer more permanent relief.

Q…Dear Doug, My cholesterol is 253. What do you think about taking RED Yeast Rice, brand name “Caleast” recommended by a holistic doctor. I appreciate the information. Kathleen

A… I remember a few years ago when red rice yeast (RRY) became the subject of an infringement lawsuit. Apparently, RRY had properties similar to one of the cholesterol lowering medications. An enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase raises cholesterol levels and both the cholesterol lowering medication and RRY inhibited this enzyme. Since RRY was natural, safe and inexpensive, battle lines were drawn. Thankfully, they were erased a short time later and we consumers can get the benefits of cholesterol lowering sans prescriptive drugs.

If I were your holistic physician, however, I’d teach you that in many cases antifungal medications (natural or prescriptive) kill fungus, which I believe to be the cause of high blood fats. Most physicians have no idea that the statin drugs used to lower cholesterol levels were antifungal drugs before they were called “statin” drugs. Of course, this means that a Phase One diet, exercise program and supplements might assist you in controlling your cholesterol. I suspect that in the next decade, scientists will discover the value of probiotics in lowering cholesterol levels.

Q… Dear Doug Kaufman, Is wheat gluten in veggie sausage safe to eat?

A… I hope so, because I eat them! Decades ago, when I made this “fungus-disease” discovery, it was never my intention to scare anyone, create dietary paranoia or make new kitchen rules. Rather, it became my goal to educate the public about the role of fungus in our air, food products and medications, and certain symptoms and diseases that we typically suffer from. Wheat products are sometimes contaminated with fungal byproducts called mycotoxins and these contribute to human symptoms and diseases. If you have symptoms, yet don’t know why, try eliminating all forms of grains for a few weeks (including veggie sausages) and see if this restrictive diet clears them up.

Q… Doug, Recently my daughter has developed small red bumps on her face that come and go and itch when inflamed. I was wondering if this may be rosacea? It is normally on her cheeks and ears and a little on her neck. What would be a treatment you would suggest for this? Thanks. Jim

A… Jim, earlier this year, I interviewed a young man that was plagued with acne for years. Like most, he traveled from dermatologist to dermatologist until he discovered a cure for his own acne. As he shared this cure with others, they had similar results. His name is Chris Gibson and he has authored a book called Acne Free in 3 Days, and has a Web site with the same name (www.acnefreein3days.com).

After years of working with dermatologists, I, like Chris learned that acne is never due to an antibiotic deficiency. Given recent discoveries that antibiotics are linked with serious diseases like cancer, the antibiotic approach would be my last, not my first. Talk to her physicians about this.

Jim, change her diet per Chris’s wonderful book and watch what happens. When children see the difference that diet can make, they become proactive in their own treatment and reversal.
