KNOW THE CAUSE
by Doug Kaufmann
Q…Doug, I enjoyed your lecture in Port Huron in June and have read one of your books. My husband and I try to follow the diet most of the time. In fact, I read my lecture notes to him afterwards, and he was sold on the idea immediately. We would like to know of any other lectures or discussions that are in this area. Anything scheduled? Thanks, Janette
A…Janette, thanks for your confidence! I always have such a wonderful time in Michigan! I believe if you press on the gang at The Lakeshore Guardian a little, they just might invite me back. So much new information comes up in the scientific literature that confirms my suspicions that mold, mildew and fungus do indeed contribute to many health problems. The PowerPoint presentation changes often, but I remain the same!

Q…Doug, My two-year-old daughter has vesicoureteral reflux. She takes antibiotics (Septra) daily to avoid infection from urine returning to the kidneys. Is there any alternative to daily antibiotics? I give my daughter pro-biotics daily but she has recently developed eczema. Other mysterious symptoms are: white spots on her face and several yeast infections. Are there alternatives to antibiotics to prevent infection in a case like this? Can you provide a link to your recent show about antibiotics? I have been to knowthecause.com and could not find it. A friend told me that she sees several of the symptoms described in the show in my daughter. Thank you. Sincerely, J. Livingston
A…Vesicoureteral reflux is a condition wherein the urine in the body travels uphill instead of downhill. Instead of urine flowing down from the kidneys to the bladder, it flows uphill from the bladder to the tubes from the kidneys. Kidney infections are apparently not rare when this occurs, and physicians use prophylactic antibiotic therapy to prevent infection. Like most other medical conditions, doctors do not know why this reflux occurs. Maybe we can figure this out by offering an analogy.
A type of mold called Fusarium grows predominantly on grains like wheat and corn. Unfortunately, this mold cannot be adequately tested before we consume the cereal or bread that might be contaminated. Fusarium mold makes a poisonous substance (mycotoxin) called Vomitoxin. When too much vomitoxin is eaten, reflux occurs, but this time it is not urine reflux, but food reflux. Up from the stomach and out the mouth comes food! As its name implies, vomitoxin causes vomiting.
It is interesting to note here that mold causes reversal of normal digestion. Could mold also cause reversal of normal urine flow? If so, you might begin to see obvious signs of too much yeast (fungus) in her body; vaginal yeast infections and white spots developing on the skin, to name a few. Indeed, this is already occurring.
The joy in this would be to properly identify the cause of her urinary condition, because sometimes the cause leads to the cure. Could the cause be fungus? Remember that antibiotics are fungal byproducts that are well established as contributing to symptoms. Did you take antibiotics during the time you were pregnant with her? Has your home leaked or does it smell like mold or mildew? Please begin investigating these possibilities and if you feel that her reflux condition might have a mold basis, talk to her doctor about prescribing harmless Nystatin, instead of Septra, since Nystatin kills fungus and antibiotics encourage its growth. Keep watching online or on TV. We do not inventory our shows; otherwise, I’d send you that particular show.

Q…Doug, I’ve heard some hype about a great remedy for tumors called maple syrup and baking soda. Could this really be? Please enlighten us. Thank you, Jan
A…Great question, Jan! Some people believe that you can raise the ire of cancerous tumors by allowing them to fully surface (with sugar or syrup), and then zap them by reversing the pH of the individual with the tumor formations. Baking soda alters the pH toward alkalinity, and since cancer grows better in an acid environment, becoming more alkaline might possibly stall tumor progression. Look at my interview with Tullio Simoncini, MD on my website, www.knowthecause.com for more information.

Q…Doug, This may seem like a silly question, but I would like to know the truth about bottled water. There are many companies now offering bottled water in their beverage line, but are they good? I’ve heard discussion about not drinking out of plastic bottles and distilled versus reverse osmosis. There are many purifiers, but do we want the minerals removed, too? So many questions and where do you turn for the honest truth? I wondered if you might be able to direct me to finding out which water to drink. Thank you for your help. Chuck
A…Given that a very high percentage of our body is composed of water, this is a very relevant question. For decades, we have had a ceramic dispenser in our home that dispenses hard plastic enclosed, reverse osmosis water. Whereas the softer plastics seem to represent the majority of consumer concerns, it is the chemical Bisphenol A that has the scientific community, and therefore us, buzzing. Look at the bottom of your plastic bottle. There is a tiny triangle listing a number inside of it. If the number is seven, this plastic contains BPA. The numbers three or six indicates that other chemicals that are currently concerning scientists exist in that water. Of course such information is only part of the water story, because it leaves us all wondering what the numbers one, two, four and five indicates! Paranoia alone may kill us, so relax, drink reverse osmosis water daily and then sweat it out during your work out each day!
