AMERICA’S TRUE STRENGTH
by Tony Taton
We have opened our land to all people from all nations to come to America to make their lives better for themselves and their families. Our forefathers were hardworking, God-fearing people from overseas. They played by the rules, raised their families, educated their children, paid their taxes and helped their neighbor in time of need.
But some people coming into our nation today take all we have to offer, and then thumb their nose at us. The 9/11/2001 bombing of the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon brought America out of a great complacency, for the people had not fought on our land for many years. The true strength of the American people shows when the bullies of the world start to pound on us.
Out of adversity comes strength: The more hardship you face, the stronger you become. Soon after that September, we came together as a nation, and some of the world’s bullies have found out what Yankee Doodle Dandy is made out of. They are going to get further lessons before it is over, for Yankee blood is boiling, and the bullies are going to pay a terrific price for this little game they played in New York and Washington.
We have encumbered ourselves with rules and regulations that sometimes restrain our law officers and aid the people who wish to destroy our way of life. Our security has been loose because of complacency, and we have allowed people who are felons, murderers, lowlifes and others to move around at ease in our nation with fake passports and papers. Can you imagine, people coming into our land, being trained by our pilots to fly our jets to bomb our buildings? Unreal, but so true.
The American people are indeed much stronger than our enemies think, and they will soon learn this is true. One of the drum boys in the Civil War was only 13 when he was decorated for bravery. At Pearl Harbor, one of the 20-millimeter gunners was only 15, but what a man he was. (When the going gets tough, the tough get going.)
In WWI Sgt. Alvin York was in his teens from out of the hills down yonder, yet he won our nation’s highest award for bravery. In WWII, Audie Murphy won a chest full of medals. Yes, we may be fat, overfed Yankees, but we are a tough bunch. Push us into the wall, and watch the fur fly. We will fight until we win. May the good Lord watch over the President, his cabinet and protect our troops as they fight their way to rid the world of terrorists.
We will never forget the stories that came out of the rubble of the WTC and Pentagon, of the unsung heroes, of the giving to others. It will be a long time before all of the stories are told.
