TRAVELTRIVIA
Question of the Month
(© 2009 Randy Karr)

Marie Mroczek, Fred Black, Sandra & Bob Burk, and Deborah Black correctly answered Flint as the city struck by the deadliest tornado ever recorded in Michigan. Now, let’s see how you do with this Travel Trivia question. Answer is due June 15.

The largest artificial lake in Michigan is 12-miles long and has a surface area of 5,000 acres. It was created during the lumbering era when lumbermen dammed the Big Sable River to create a holding pond for trees felled upstream. Connected to Lake Michigan, it borders Manistee National Forest on the north and towering dunes to the west. The lake is located four miles north of a city once named Père Marquette Village. It was so named because Father Marquette, a Catholic missionary and explorer, landed nearby in the mid-1600s. Several hundred years later, it was renamed for James Ludington, a local lumber baron and sawmill owner. Name this man-made lake that today is a recreational haven for swimming, fishing, and boating.
