KNOW THE CAUSE
by Doug Kaufmann

Doug KaufmannQ…I am a special education teacher and have four children with autism in my class. When I watched your show yesterday I was intrigued by the list of “signs of yeast” in children. Three of the children with autism in my class have all the signs except ringworm, and one child has all the signs including ringworm. They all develop mysterious rashes on occasion, and one parent has even referred to her child’s rash as a “yeast rash.” I’ve heard you talk about a possible link between autism and fungus before, and now I’m convinced that yeast and other fungi could play a role in autism. In addition to the “yeast signs” posted on your show, I have noticed that all nine children with autism in our building also have dark circles around their eyes.

You mentioned that yeast can be contagious. Can it possibly be spread like bacteria and viruses through nasal secretions or sneezing? Thank you for your important work in the area of fungus.

Peggy

A…Peggy, Thank you for caring enough to ask this important question. Unlike ringworm, most fungi are not contagions. Since so little is understood about mycology (the study of fungus), each case is intriguing. When nine children in a classroom are experiencing the classic sign of a serious neurological condition, it is not the children and certainly not their gene pool that concerns me, rather the classroom itself. We have added a link to our Web site recently that enables doctors and nurses a chance to read research papers dealing with fungus and its effect on humans. Dr. Luke Curtis has assisted us in this addition, and he has interesting dual-credentials as an industrial hygienist as well as a physician. He has published many research papers on this fungus-ill health phenomenon that unfortunately his peers do not know of. Please read a few of these articles as they deal with “sick building syndrome.”

Stachybotrys is a neurotoxic mold that easily grows in indoor environments, like classrooms. It is the absolute last thing that any neurologist would ever suspect as contributing to autism, but it is often the first thing parents suspect when they reflect on how their child’s autism was almost non-existent during the summer months when the child was not in school, yet exacerbated when school began. Physicians call this coincidental, psychologists label it “stress related syndrome” yet the truth be known, mold within a classroom might be the etiology of the numerous physical and neurological aberrations seen in these children (and/or their teachers).

Lowe’s or Home Depot stores sell indoor mold test kits for around $20. Simply follow their instructions and within a day or two, you might be surprised at what this plate teaches you!

Q…Hi Doug, My husband and I are following the Phase One Diet. We are sick and tired of being sick and tired. So...we are following your advice. No more insanity here. We have also been talking to everyone about “Know the Cause” and your books. Many new people are showing great interest in fungus. Doug, when are you coming back to Harbor Beach, Michigan?

Thanks, Diane

A…I have made so many great new friends in Northern Michigan since I began coming to town 10 years ago, Diane, that I really want to come back. Julie and the entire Lakeshore Guardian gang have enabled every one of my trips. Between Julie’s travels and the growth of our TV show and business, we’ve been negligent in putting another lecture together. You begin bugging Julie, I’ll begin bugging the guys here for a “road trip,” and I’ll see you in Harbor Beach before you know it!

Q…Doug, In your opinion, does a person on a healthy diet, 80 percent raw, also need to be on anti-fungal supplements if they have no symptoms of disease? My grocery bill is huge – it is expensive eating good food. I’d rather put my money into a better quality food than supplements, if I don’t need to take something. Your thoughts? Thank you, Cassandra

A…Cassandra, my return home from Vietnam was marked by ill health to the point that I began believing that I really had Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome! I had numerous health problems and I was told then what millions of sufferers are told today. Take steroids and see me in two weeks! When I realized that my good health was my responsibility, I began searching for a diet that would help me nutritionally. Remember, it was 1972 and even in Los Angeles, the health craze hadn’t begun. We had absolutely no idea that the right diet would reverse symptoms let alone that raw foods held special medicinal qualities. We just thought food would sustain sick people until they either got better…or died!

When I finally put the Phase One Diet together, I began realizing that fungus was fully capable of parasitizing us humans. If I had this particular parasite, it had to be killed with medications or supplements, but most importantly, it had to be starved to death; enter the phase one diet.

Although I feel that raw foods are quite nutritious, the Phase One Diet does not mandate raw foods. In 1972, I began eating asparagus and Vienna sausage out of cans! I ate hot dogs for sustenance. Talk about the antithesis of raw food! But something strange happened. Within a week of eating what every nutritionist felt was a horrible diet, I began feeling the best I had ever felt in two years! Mind you, these weren’t “range fed” pigs or organic asparagus.

To this day, I eat a nice big salad daily. By adding hard-boiled eggs and some kind of poultry or meat to it, it becomes a full meal. I’ve never been a breakfast eater since I’m scurrying to get out of the door each morning; a grapefruit or if I have time, I’ll juice some carrots/green apples/1/2 lemon and it really hits the spot!

Following the Phase One Diet, a diet solely constructed to offer great nutrition to humans, while simultaneously starving fungi, does not have to be raw, or organic. It just has to be palatable and effective in providing great nutrition to the body. Of course, as we continue to learn what the FDA is allowing by way of antibiotics and hormones in our meat and milk supply and genetic modification of common foods we eat, it becomes imperative that we lean toward wholesome real foods for good health.

If one is without symptoms, two things come to mind:

A hearty congratulation is in order.

Nutritional supplements nutritionally supplement that which we do not get in our diets. If you’re eating the Standard American Diet (SAD), please take nutritional supplementation regularly, even in the absence of ill health. Most who enjoy great health got there by acknowledging the importance of wholesome food and regular exercise.
